SV Counselling Services opened in January 2011 and provides specialist mental health nursing and counselling services to the people of the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie areas in New South Wales.

Sue Vandenberg is the owner/principal of SV Counselling Services.

Sue is a Credentialed Mental Health Nurse. The Mental Health Nurse Credential recognises the skills, expertise and experience of nurses who are practising as specialist Mental Health Nurses. It demonstrates to employers, professional colleagues, patients and carers that an individual nurse has achieved the professional standard for practice in mental health nursing. A Credentialed Mental Health Nurse is entitled to a Medicare Provider Number and to operate a private nursing/counselling practice in his/her own right. 


Sue Vandenberg has over 25 years experience working in mental health services in the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Hunter regions. She has been Credentialed since 2007.

Experience

Since she commenced her career in 1983, Sue has worked in public and private mental health units, and community mental health services. She has also been employed by the University of Newcastle as a lecturer in nursing (mental health), and the Newcastle TAFE as a teacher of nursing.

Between 2006 and 2010, Sue worked at Darby St Family Practice in Cooks Hill as a nurse-counsellor. She worked with Kotara Family Practice during 2010, then opened SV Counselling Services in January 2011. 

Sue regularly attends and presents at conferences at local, national and international levels. Her work has been published in Australian nursing journals.

  • Psychiatric Nursing Certificate
  • Certificate in Psychiatric Rehabilitation
  • Diploma in Health Sciences (Nursing)
  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Master of Nursing
  • Credentialed Mental Health Nurse 

    Sue is also a Qualified Clinical Superviser for nurses.
